Dorothy Bury Shaw

Dorothy Bury Shaw is an award-winning artist and poet. Born and raised in Chicago, she graduated from the Chicago Academy of Fine Art.  Her initial exploration in editorial illustration gradually gave way to a deeper calling in fine art and poetry. This transition was fueled by the fertile depths of personal experience, engagement with Chicago’s art scene, and her exploration of spiritual traditions across time and culture.  Through her artwork she expresses the steadfast interconnectedness of humanity and the divine.

She is an active member of the Chicago Alliance of Fine Art, the Elmhurst Art Guild, the Illinois Poetry Society, and has a gallery/studio space at Water Street Studios in Batavia, IL.

She has published a book of her art and poetry titled Love Without Distance – A Heartscape of Art & Verse.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Life is beautiful! Deep down, there is a rich inner landscape where love casts its light upon the shadows of my missteps, joys, and heartaches.  Something greater than myself always emerges to guide me as I work on my art. I feel the wisdom of the ancestors and the harmonic tones of a billion beating hearts.  I see love expressed through everyone and everything.
