Emily F Friel

I paint Light Patterns. The paintings might suggest Prisms. We are surrounded by light, and I study and observe, and then interpret and express the very existence of light. I want to define how it affects its surroundings, and sometimes the observer. The patterns in my paintings often are described as prisms. Patterns are present in nature; some are regular and some irregular. Some patterns express a sense of time—a moment caught, a sense of time passing, a sense of change and movement. Some patterns express a sense of place—a solid recognizable place, or an ethereal place.
