Natalia Toreeva was born in Leningrad (USSR), now St. Petersburg, Russia, where she belonged to the “School of Sidlin” art group, a Russian Nonconformist movement in the 1970s-1980s. After she graduated with a MA in Art and Design, she worked as the Costume Designer on “Lenfilm” film studio. Natalia emigrated to USA in 1977. In USA she received MS (Master in Computer Science) from DePaul University, Chicago, and worked as software engineer and System Analyst at IT companies. Having 2 master’s degrees, she used this combined knowledge of the art and technology in some of her projects, as the computer graphics and mixed media, that mostly used for the Posters, Banners, literary journals, magazines, and computer graphics artwork. In her paintings, mostly portraits, she continue to follow tradition of the “School of Sidlin.” Her graphic works are mostly simple methods of drawings by pen and ink. In her illustrations, especially for the children’s book, she used watercolor with the purity and brightness of the colors, and mixed media.
In 2023, Natalia participated in the International Exhibition of Arts, where 22 countries partook, winning the Silver Medal for her three works in the graphics category.

Natalia also had developed entries for the DWG Veterans journal which included her stories, poetry and artwork for the Honoring Our Veterans, a journal dedicated to homeless veterans (2009, 2019). She also participated with her artwork in a number of literary journals, including the Prairie Light Review journal of COD (College of DuPage) for several years already.
In 2025, Natalia participated in the West Chicago Banner Art exhibition with the “Sustenance” project, and her Banner artwork was exhibited on the streets of West Chicago (May-Sept). She also participated with the Banner Art exhibitions in 2016-2018, 2021, 2022, 2024. In 2022, 2024 and 2025 she received “Certificate of Appreciation” by West Chicago Cultural Arts Commission for “Outstanding Contributions to the Art Banner Project”.
She authored several books for children, including her seven children’s books that she wrote and illustrated. Her children’s books are now in the local public libraries (Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Wheaton, Naperville) and also on amazon.com.
